Now go outside and look at the sky.
The Bird People in China
Time to warm up the blog again, after a loooong and unproductive break... So how about The Bird People in China?
In case you (like me) have never heard of this movie before, do yourself a favor and rent it or buy it right now.
This is quite possibly the highest ranked nearly unknown movie of the last decade. Directed by Takashi Miike, who usually produces very violent Yakuza movies, this film takes us deep into south-western China and enchants the viewer with a magical mediation on the encroachment of civilization and the loss of innocence.
It starts slowly and takes full advantage of the Chinese countryside and has some memorable performances by a group of seasoned actors and quite a handful of unknown local actors. And at the end you will be totally eveloped in a story that is not quite from this world...
Go see it.
